The Architect of Ashes started as an original acrylic painting on reclaimed material by Central Michigan artist Zach Maatman. A beetle rises from a pale, weathered ground, its body built from carved acanthus scrolls in slate blue and silver, as if it were made rather than born. The title casts it as a builder working in what fire leaves behind, the kind of small, patient creature that turns endings into new ground. The full painting is printed on the front of this hoodie.
