River King started as an original acrylic painting on reclaimed material by Central Michigan artist Zach Maatman. A salmon with a hooked jaw stretches the full length of this wide painting, its body built from tumbling acanthus leaves and silver scrolls over glowing medallions. The title nods to the king salmon that push up Michigan rivers each fall, one of the state’s most striking annual journeys. The original has already found a home.
