Son of Cycles started as an original acrylic painting on reclaimed material by Central Michigan artist Zach Maatman. The smallest painting in the gallery, it packs a whole cosmos onto a palm-sized panel: a beetle swirling with silver-white filigree beneath a night sky of planets and stars, over a glowing yellow ground. Small as it is, the insect belongs to the same turning order as the planets above it. The original has already found a home.
